BRITISH PODCAST GETS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD FOR MOST DOWNLOADED:
BBC TV comedy star (THE OFFICE) Ricky Gervais podcast series is said to be the world's most popular podcast, averaging more than 261,000 downloads each week during its first month in December, 2005 when it launched. . Gervais told the UKGuardian that it was no surprise because the podcast is the first of its type: "It's a bit like Alexander Graham Bell getting the biggest telephone bill," he said. Gervais is probably best known as the star of the BBC series (syndicated in 80 countries) called THE OFFICE. He is also the executive producer of the NBC series of the same name and an American cast (Gervais does not act in it)now being renewed for next season.
