The wireless web PSP enables users to connect to news, entertainment content, online searches and email.
"Sony's addition of internet access to the PSP opens up the gaming arena to next-generation real-time marketing for brands. Savvy marketers who have been looking at Electronic Art's exclusive with ESPN can jump into the PSP arena with their own personalized messaging to gamers.
This new tech offers a way to link games to brand home pages or even micro sites for contests and more. The question is still what is the killer app gamers will welcome? Is it free gaming, prizes or maybe real-time sports scores?
No doubt savvy iMedia types are salivating to try out the new tech. Meanwhile gamers are probably already working on how to block spammers and phishers. So you better be very creative in your marketing apps," says Joyce Schwarz, iMedia contributor and emerging media consultant.
Sony also says that the new web access software has built-in data security and will enhance digital photo-sharing.
"The internet browser and other added functionality ... will further enhance the user experience beyond the unprecedented portable entertainment already provided by PSP," says Andrew House, executive vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment America.

What's so fascinating to this blogger Joyce Schwarz about the recent Sony announcement is that back in 2002 in her book "CUTTING THE CORD: Guide to Going Wireless" (Pearson Publishing) available at her website www.joycecom.com. is that she forecast the opportunity for home gaming units like Sony's Playstation to become an internet hub for users --the PSP makes this prediction not only real but more portable for play anywhere at anytime. |
