EXCERPT FROM PUBLISHER ROBERT DOWLING'S MESSAGE: of course HOLLYWOOD REPORTER'S publisher Robert Dowling includes a special message to readers in today's start of the anniversary celebration for THR (as it's called in the biz -- we call it THE REPORTER or HOLLYWOOD REPORTER leaving off the "THE":
MESSAGE FROM HOLLYWOOD REPORTER PUBLISHER:
Seventy-five years ago, W.R. "Billy" Wilkerson gave this industry an identity. He was the visionary who saw the promise for a daily newspaper serving what was then still a small-town, provincial business but one poised to explode into a worldwide cultural phenomenon.During the next six months, as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of The Hollywood Reporter, we will take you on an editorial excursion to examine how the industry's identity has changed since The Reporter debuted on Sept. 3, 1930.

(continuing Publisher Robert Dowling's comments: This business has grown and expanded exponentially during the past eight decades. We are looking to capture the details, mood, atmosphere and attitudes of earlier eras to learn what the past can tell us about our present and our future. Our anniversary series begins today with a look at Wilkerson and the tumultuous time in which The Reporter was born. We'll continue with special anniversary-themed sections every month, in addition to a range of other retrospective features, through September, when we'll commemorate our diamond anniversary with a special edition focused on what the next 75 years will bring to this great industry. (Hollywood2020 can't wait to see that issue...maybe Dowling will give us a preview-- blogger Joyce Schwarz knows Dowling from when she was consultant for the HOLLYWOOD FILM COMMISSION in the early 90's --couldn't be a nicer guy--elegant and accessible.
Hollywood2020 can't wait to hear what kind of stories the OLD and NEW Hollywood types send in response to Dowling's request: "If you have stories you'd like to share with our readers, let us know. We have plenty of time and would like to include them.Happy 75th!"Robert J. Dowling Editor-in-chief and publisher The Hollywood Reporter
