"SCARS!" ALL NEW ZORRO ADVENTURE WRITTEN BY FAMOUS ZORRO COMICS WRITER DON MCGREGOR ...set in Yellowstone Park, awesome!
"Scars!" from NY-based publisher Papercutz is the swarshbuckler's debut in the hot graphic novel format. The Papercutz graphic novel (96 pages, full-color, in pocket-book size with glossy cover) is a compilation of the popular Papercutz Zorro comic book series. The graphic novel "Scars!" is the first in a quarterly series from this publisher. I love this Zorro series because it follows Don Diego, the original man behind the mask, in his adventures in the Old West and is set against the wonders of Yellowstone Park. It's a hoot to see Zorro and his posse discovering hot springs and geysers. The avante garde manga-inspired look updates Zorro to make him ultra-cool and yes, VERY HOT too.

ZORRO GALLOPS THROUGH YELLOWSTONE...
Reminds me of the day I spent sitting on the patio at a Yellowstone lodge watching Old Faithful --be faithful every 20 minutes. Very relaxing after a few days of chasing the rapids while rafting nearby. Of course, I was protected from the bears by a mini-van windshield when heading into the wilds and the iced lemonade and cushy rocking chair view from the patio made for some kewl geyser watching. It's a hoot to see Zorro -- on skis and and zapping his deadly new foes in the "Scars!" tales. Check out a preview at www.papercutz.com

In “Scars!”, Zorro faces the villainy of Lucifer Trapp and his henchman, Ripklaw, who seek to kill the Bessons, before Thierry can publish his maps that would reveal the gruesome fur trappers’ secret hunting grounds. Somehow it reminds me of the yearning I had as a kid growing up in Ohio to see the Old West as it was in the 20th Century...have never seen anything close to these scenes except on Alaska's panhandle.

I was impressed with McGregor's dedication which reads "This is for my wife MARSHA CHILDRES MCGREGOR--27 years from our first night and the image of her moving with grace and beauty is a flesh and blood song in the heart and mind and soul, making fantasy andlove real.--DM.

MANGA-INSPIRED STYLE IS FAV WITH TWEENS & LIBRARIANS TOO
The Seattle Post Intelligencer chronicles the popularity of graphic novels in its Book section. That article reveals that Publisher's Weekly reports graphic novels generated nearly $210 million in sales last year -- a 35 percent jump over the previous year. Sales increased by 50 percent the year before that. In the SeattlePi.com article, the president of NBM and Papercutz Terry Nantier is quoted as saying, "Kids grew up with this style,so they're familiar with it. "Librarians across the country," he adds, "are becoming very, very enthusiastic about graphic novels and welcoming them with open arms, because it encourages kids to read and takes them away from videos and computers." The PI article explains that Nantier expects Papercutz to go over big, thanks to new backing from Holtzbrinck Publishers, which includes the trade houses of Henry Holt; Farrar, Straus & Giroux; and St. Martin's press. With Holtzbrinck in its corner, Nantier sees Papercutz migrating from bookstores and specialty shops to mega-retailers like Wal-Mart and Target.
