CARDBOARD BOX -- IN THE TOY HALL OF FAME?
Ordinary cardboard box is now in the National Toy Hall of Fame. REALLY!
The National Toy Hall of Fame, part of the Strong Museum, located in Rochester, N.Y. just inducted it's latest additions to it's ranks of all time best toys including. The new three favorites are Candyland, the board game, the pop-up JACK IN THE BOX and an ordinary CARDBOARD BOX. The three inductees, which have engaged kids for generations, will join the ranks of other favorites such as checkers, the Duncan Yo-Yo, Lincoln Logs and Monopoly Not including the new inductees there are 34 toys in the National Toy Hall of Fame.
TOY ICON STATUS

CNN explains that In order to become eligible for the Hall of Fame, the toys must have achieved icon status, been enjoyed over several generations, and fostered learning or creativity. Toys can also be eligible for the Hall simply through showing innovation by changing play or toy design.
A cardboard box becomes a castle with just a few cuts and shaping.
Supposedly, the first cardboard box appeared in England in 1817, according to the museum, the corrugated version emerged in 1890 and quickly rose to popularity in the shipping industry. According to ABC's reports: the corrugated cardboard box, which quickly came to dominate the shipping industry in North America, was invented by a Brooklyn printer, Robert Gair, in 1890 (note the disparity-- one says it's from England the other says invented in Brooklyn, NYC ???
