NATPE MORNING COFFEE CHAT WITH JIB JAB CO-FOUNDER GREG SPIRIDELLIS WHO SPILLS THE BEANS ON THE FUTURE FOR THE DUO:MOVIES, TV, IPTV, WIRELESS & ONLINE HUMOR DESTINATION(first of 3 parts on JIB JAB today and tomorrow: by Joyce Schwarz on location at Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas.
Hm-mm the choice this morning was between rolling over for more sleep, watching the Bush presidential press conference or heading down the hall for coffee with Gregg Spiridellis, co-founder of the "almost cult-famous" Jib Jab branded animation company. Sleep in Vegas is a Mortal sin so that was out, I turned on the presidential press conference and it almost looked like a Jib Jab parody with a camera pole hanging in front of President Bush's POV and the prez handling it with aplomb warning the audience of reporters to put on their helmets and the TV director switching to handheld camera coverage and Bush leaning forward to be seen beyond the clunky techno-interference...but minutes after news of the elections, job cuts and more politico round-up, the aroma of fresh air wafting down the hall from the third alternative and my first choice -- coffee with Jib Jab co-founder won out.
AND WHAT A MORNING IT WAS FOR SHARING SIPS OF THE FUTURE AND SPILLING THE BEANS ON WHAT'S NEXT FOR JIB JAB....which just may be the trendiest branded animation company in the world. Still known best for their election parody in 2004 "This Land" musical satire featuring the presidential candidates sling mud to the tune of Woodie Guthrie's classic folk song that 2 minute flash online short spiraled its way via P2P power to more than 80 million views online and an astounding 590 million views offline on TV according to Nielsen figures that the brother duo gathered from news programs and clips on the TODAY SHOW and JAY LENO and more -- and that doesn't include the coverage outside of the US -- around the world.
BOTTOM-LINE -- Original Productions, Live Action, More Videos on the Jib Jab site, Recurrent content, Building Properties and even a Weekly TV show & Movies are all in the works for the "Jib Jab" duo and to fulfill the loyal 'Jib Jabber' fans who seem to range in age and psychographics from peach fuzzers to gray hairs based on the NATPE morning audience heavily attended by the Academics in the crowd who were almost swooning at the Jib Jab co-founder who a few told me is like a "rock star' idol for their college classes filled with would be next-gen Jib Jabbers!
PAID CONTENT BEATS ME TO THE PUNCH with the news of Jib Jab heading toward being an online destination -- moving out of 'collage political satire' to a cross between MySpace and Comedy Central --so go to the www.paidcontent.org and see the real-time coverage including photo that I've pasted here since my camera was getting too much reflection off the NATPE white backdrop to make it into this blog. Here's an excerpt from Paid Content's coverage....@ NATPE 2006:G. Spiridellis: JibJab Plans Online Humor Destination; "MySpace Meets Comedy Central" : Gregg Spiridellis told a few dozen people this morning -- and by extension, all of you -- that JibJab Media is on the verge of introducing social networking functions as part of the studio's plans to create an "online humor destination" with JibJab as the umbrella brand.
