Is it a mobile phone or is it a game controller? OR can it be both?
At CTIA 2006, Las Vegas, USA Wireless is staying ahead of the game crowd with a combo-device that looks pretty kewl from the pix.
By blogger, analyst, consultant Joyce Schwarz, (I'll be in Vegas tomorrow and Friday to report in-person). According to the PR guys at USA Wireless they are introducing M-Play what they are calling the world's first 'universal controller for mobile phone gaming" to the trade for the first time this week.
STRAIGHT TALK FROM VP DEVELOPMENT MOBILE CHAOS:
In his official press release Scott Vance, VP Development Mobile Chaos (USA Wireless brand for this kind of cool stuff) says: "We hope to embrace the entire gaming community by giving game developers better reason to introduce new titles; players get enhanced experiences - which leads to longer play times for carriers." Check it out at www.mobilechaos.net. Luckily Hollywood2020 blogger/analyst/consultant Joyce Schwarz got straight through to Vance via mobile phone of course and he says the M-Play is getting some great attention at CTIA. Sega and some other brands have stopped by to try it out. Some mobile gamers are hanging out to try it for the first time (seems that this is really a true international launch -- no samples were given out for a pre-beta). AND the ultimate complement-- some game developers are asking for M-Play hardware to put in their booths at the upcoming E3 show in Los Angeles. I can't wait to try it myself. It's this kind of innovation that will move the industry forward faster than waiting for handset manufacturers' usual lag-time of 18 months to 2 years.
WHAT M-PLAY INCLUDES: *key mode switching capabilities * allows players to update key profiles over-the-air by pressing the Mode button * controller buttons replicate the phone's keypad so instructions are the same *universal design they say will work with even your newest phone. Suggested retail price $49.00. Here are links to what some other journalists are saying about M-Play and it's complement M-Couture: M-COUTURE Is Making Its Mark on Mobile Fashion,
