A recent LA TIMES article on design by Hugh Hart drew our attention to ELECTROLAND..Did you ever feel you were being watched? | Design News."Enteractive" at Met Lofts in downtown Los Angeles...according to the author, 'partygoers stepped onto a digital caprety of entryway tiles embedded with senosrs that sent red LED lights pulsing underfoot....creators were Cameron McNall and Damon Seeley, principals in a 2-person design firm called yes Electdroland...and experts in the 'art of surveillance' --the firm is part of a Triennial by the Cooper-Hewitt called "DESIGN LIFE NOW" that opens December 8 too.

COST OF INSTALLATION: $380,000Created under the Community Redevelopment Agency's "percent for art" program..(1 percent of all construction costs have to go to art).
OTHER Surveillance projects in the works to watch out for: Brezeway atop Rockefeller center-- which tags visitors and tracks them via LED panels on ceiling. An electronic vitrine (blogger note-- web says a glass cabinet for display) -- on front of JH Snyder's NOHO in Horth Hollywood will 'display wipes of alphanumeric messages in response to passing cars...and watch for a pedway at the Indianapolis Airport to to connect the dots between travelers who are assigned overhead discs of light as they travel to and from the parking lot (let's hope none of them get mugged since it is a surveillance project)!!!!! BUT SINCE IT'S ART is it a different story...in looking for the link to the LA TIMES article we found this link to other privacy reports on the article:
