YES, WATCH FOR AZUREUS TO LAUNCH FULL LENGTH STREAMING MOVIES ON MYSPACE.COM ...by Joyce Schwarz, www.hollywood2020.blogs.com.
During a session on Next Gen Personalized media, Azureus CEO Gilles BianRosa mentioned that his firm plans to launch full length streaming movies on Myspace.com in the next week or so.
This blogger Joyce Schwarz, JCOM, emerging entertainment consultant, www.joycecom.com, talked with BianRosa after the session and he confirmed yes, they will be launching full length movies downloadable on myspace.com. (UPDATE -- on November 7 we received an email from GETAZUREUS PR firm that states BianRosa is quite impressive in person, I've never met him before. He has an amazing background and seems to really understand the P2P marketplace.
90 percent of movies produced never find an audience...
A search for BianRosa and GETAZUREUS.com pulled up this rather amazing statistic from him: "Research carried out by Azureus estimates that more than 10,000 movies are produced each year in the U.S., but 90% never find an audience.
WHY WE THINK THIS IS IMPORTANT:
Streaming content from within social networking communities, virtual worlds and games could just be the next-generation of delivery systems to teens & the much coveted advertiser group of 18-35 ages Joyce Schwarz blogging at Hollywood2020.blogs.com explains.
Why do these social networks or gamers or virtual world residents have to go roaming around the web to find their content-- when the community can provide it to them easily and even on their own schedule. If I'm a teen online at Myspace 3 hours a day after-school, Myspace could easily recognize that time interval and not only help me time-shift my TV and movie programming preferences to that period but also offer me special deals on content that I'd like to watch in that time frame or content that I can download to my mobile to watch anytime....
it's a bold new world out there and not only are we time-shifting, but we are place-shifting and Joyce Schwarz believes that's going to happen not only in RL but in SL too (real life versus Second Life).
SESSION ON PERSONALIZATION AT DIGITAL HOLLYWOOD:
The session at Digital Hollywood was ably moderated by Tim Chang, Principal, Gabriel Venture Partners, Moderator and included an impressive list of other speakers.
ABOUT AZUREUS -- in case you don't know Azureus -- you should...their new site www.getazureus.com, contains a content layer which allows users to upload torrent content for free (at least in this beta mode).
GET AZUREUS.com is mentioned in CORANTE.com this week by Kevin Anderson who notes that "Azeureus has now developed another service that uses its own seed servers in a legal BitTorrent distribution network. This allows companies to distribute high-quality video, huge files, without insanely high bandwidth costs. That's the beauty of peer-to-peer. Seed servers help distribute the files. The distribution happens on the public internet, the files are stored not on central servers but on the customers personal computers. From the demo, it looked like BBC America is one of their clients. "
BIANROSA -- more info -- here's his bio and a quick Google search shows that he's involved in SiliconFrench -- an organization for French speaking techies in Silicon Valley of course and that he just did a workshop with Google for HBS (Harvard Business School) alums up in the Valley too.
Gilles BianRosa is the Chief Executive Officer of Azureus, Inc. As CEO, Gilles is driving the evolution of the company from the popular, award-winning peer-to-peer application (117 million downloads) to a distribution and exchange platform for "all things rich media".
Prior to Azureus, BianRosa worked for McKinsey & Company, where he led mission-critical initiatives related to product roadmaps and go-to-market strategies for venture-backed and "academy" technology companies including Microsoft, HP, BEA, and SAP. Prior to McKinsey, he was instrumental in the launch of Vivendi’s media and services Internet platform for health professionals. Additionally, he founded MileStone, a software company serving the retail industry.
BianRosa holds an M.S. in Computer Science from EPITA School of Engineering in Paris, and an MBA from Harvard University.
HERE's SOME MORE BLURBAGE from the Azureus press release online:
"This is an exciting time for the Azureus community as we have the opportunity to help little known but high quality digital entertainment productions to come to light, created either by movie professionals or digital video hobbyists," BianRosa is quoted as saying in the company press release. "Azureus' vision is to lead the digital entertainment revolution by providing the best solution for media content owners to reach out to a young, Internet-savvy audience in a safe and cost effective way.”

RESPONSE FROM PR FIRM RECEIVED NOVEMBER 7, 2006:
Note, on November 7 of this week we received an email from GetAzureus PR firm saying that the company is not set to launch streaming movies on MySpace. Of course, we returned the email and asked why we heard Gilles say this at Digital Hollywood. He confirmed it also when we talked with him one to one after the session. Yes, we were face to face. We also wonder why it took them more than 2 weeks to get back to us. We told Gilles we were blogging about this and handed him our business card directly. We dropped off our card the next day at his booth to a staffer and said the story was in the blog that day. We heard nothing since. Here is the note we received from the PR firm We will update you on this report ASAP....note we've been at the LA Games Conference Weds & Thurs this week and on deadline for another article today.
