Why's it different from a Video iPOD? Doghouse Electronics the maker of Rover says that it's the first one where you can record directly from a TV set or PC etc...no service is involved. Step by step here are the instructions from the Rover website:

You can record directly from a TV, DVR, DVD or VCR player. The basic steps are the same for each.
1. Plug the RoverTv AV cable into the AV OUT jacks on your TV, DVR, DVD or VCR . Match the red, yellow, white color coding on the plugs to the color coding on your home set. Plug the other end into the AV IN jack on the RoverTV
2. On the RoverTv Main Menu, highlight Record, then press the PLAY button to select. Record. The Record screen menu displays.
3. Use "Record kind" to select whether recording Video or Audio. ยท Press PLAY to select "Record kind." Scroll to Quality category and select type. ( High quality recommended)
4. Scroll to Start, press the "play" button , and you're recording! The video you are recording will display on your RoverTV.
Okay we think we get it-- BUT TIVO To Go was launched last year and basically you could do some of the same features using that system-- which of course requires a subscription service to TIVO. Here's info on the TIVO service click on jpeg or go to http://www.tivo.com/4.9.4.1.asp
