At Hollywood2020.blogs.com, we're just about to head to the IFFS in Las Vegas to see what's happening with sponsorship in the film festival arena...as you may know if you follow Joyce Schwarz' articles at imediaconnection.com, Business2.0 and other trade pubs, we're fascinated with how sponsorship has moved forward as the money power behind special events worldwide. Perhaps, you saw the article we did on Wimbledon and how they do sponsorship RIGHT....(see below)
Event sponsors remain low-key, but integrate efforts for maximum value.
And it's only going to get bigger....cause-marketing spending will rise 20.5% this year to $1.34 billion, projects sponsorship consultancy IEG, Inc.The projected increase makes cause marketing the fastest-growing segment of sponsorship, outpacing the industry's overall growth rate of 10.6% to a projected $13.4 billion, per IEG. "Companies are realizing the powerful marketing benefits that can be gleaned from nonprofit affiliations," said William Chipps, senior editor of IEG Sponsorship Report, in a statement.
WHY FILM FESTIVAL SPONSORSHIP? Many people may not think of Film Festivals as 'cause-related' but most festivals remain nonprofits 501.C3 and many of them tie in with community groups to increase the awareness and involvement of multicultural audiences which fits the requirements of increasingly savvy marketers. The JPEG chart in this column shows that specialty retail, autos, and banks are the top tier marketers reaching out to cause-related events. No wonder so many film festivals yearn for an automotive sponsor!
SPORTS SPONSORSHIP DOWN? That same IEG report shows that sports sponsorship will fall 3 percent this year BUT of course it's still the bulk of sponsorship with more than 2/3 of all sponsor money going to SPORTS.....As noted, sports sponsorship, by contrast, is expected to fall to about $8.84 billion, 66% of total sponsorship spending (from 69% last year). We'll update you with some reasons why sponsors say Film Festivals are a great sponsorship vehicle after we talkt o sponsors at the IFFS in Vegas...so stay tuned....
TRUMBA......to power IFFS conference....
As we head to IFFS we checked the press releases and found info about Trumba -- a firm we were not familiar with -- but should be....According to their press release, Seattle-based Trumba said today that the International Film Festival Summit (IFFS) will use the firm's services for its annual conference. IFFS will use Truma's Connect product to power an online event calendar for the summit, including scheduling for session tracks and personal calendars. Hollywood2020.blogs.com tried their offices in Seattle and left messages for their PR people-- but got no return calls on this Saturday so we'll have to track them down in Vegas.
Ohhh...do you know what a Trumba is? -- we found info on it at TechCrunch -- surprisingly wikipedia has no listing -- maybe the Trumba.com folks want to add to the wikipedia with the original definition and their own version???
The word Trumba is actually an old Sardinian word for the kind of horn the town crier ... we found these pix at Google...and no we could not find the playing of a Trumba at youtube.com ...??
See a more modern version of a TRUMBA in this jpeg we found on google.com.
ONE OF OUR QUESTIONS is -- could this calendar system they have be used for more than just an event like the IFFS confab. Could it be used for organizing film festivals and perhaps even for production schedules for movies in progress or in productions/post-production, pre-production etc.
The release adds: Trumba Connect allows organizations to effectively publish and promote events online and create an interactive, two-way communications vehicle between themselves and their customers.
Meanwhile -- we checked Trumba's history online and found some links on one of our favorite blogs www.thealarmclock.com -- Trumba Delivers New Online Service to Publish and Syndicate Events to Any Calendar AND- Trumba, Knight Ridder Digital Announce Partnership Enabling Online Community Calendar Publishing .
OVER AT TECHCRUNCH we found....TechCrunch also recently posted info on Zvents which appears to be a Trumba competitor who just closed $7M --Local events management and calendar vendor Zvents is announcing today the closure of a Series A funding round totaling $7 million. The round was led by VantagePoint Venture Partners and included Red Rock and NetService Ventures.
Hmmm this next sentence makes us wonder and we wish we could have gotten ahold of a Trumba press person -- but we tried-- we made 3 calls -- anyway -- it appears they have dropped their support for small publishers-- I don't know what small means?? Anyway -- here is the info from TechCrunch "Primary competitor(to Zvents) Trumba only recently incorporated Ajax and has announced that it is ending support for its free and small publisher products. Trumba’s customers include the NYTimes auto section online."
IS THERE ONE CALENDAR SYSTEM THAT WORKS?
We wonder how all this fits together or competes with Yahoo Calendar (which we've often used with clients around the world) and also the new Yahoo social networking group messaging system announced this week...we'll find out and get back to you...wouldn't it be wonderful to have one calendar/social networking system that you could use across your workspace! Especially in the film industry...more from on-location at the Luxor Hotel for IFFs 2006.....see ya then...js.
