SELLING DOMAINS ON EBAY --WHAT'S UP?

SELLING WEB DOMAINS ON EBAY -- WHAT'S UP WITH THAT TREND? Blogged by Joyce Schwarz@ www.hollywood2020.blogs.com. I haven't checked lately what was up with auctioning web domains on eBay but when Studiozone.com's owner sent us a box of candy to promo the eBay auction of that domain, I decided to check it out.

studiozone.com is being auctioned at ebay.com

StudioZone.com was registered on May 1, 1997, with the intent of creating an entertainment industry database.  It has never gone "live" on the Internet and it has never changed hands. As of Sunday, September 9, 2007 the domain was listed at $1000.00 with no bidders (see JPEG above).

Hollywood Past & Present--a Look Back

Hollywood -- who started it? Who is the true father of Hollywood? Blogged by Joyce Schwarz @ www.hollywood2020.blogs.com. It's really something I've never thought of who was the patriarch who actually developed the land. Now info about a new book called "THE FATHER OF HOLLYWOOD" hit my email today. No book-- just the email -- so we did track it down at Amazon.com.

  Who is the father of Hollywood?  Here's an excerpt from some of the promo material in the email that the author sent to Hollywood2020.blogs.com:

FACEBOOK & TWITTER -- OPEN TO SEARCH ENGINES -- SOCIAL "Not - working" VS SOCIAL NETWORKING

When does social networking not work -- when it opens its user base to spam and displays your preferences, private thoughts and maybe even your private locations to search engines, blogged by Joyce Schwarz, JCOM, www.joycecom.com, author & emerging entertainment analyst.

Look at these headlines about Facebook-- they are going to (or perhaps already do) let search engines crawl member names -- and perhaps even member profiles? I know that they have announced new advertising models in Wall Street Journal that will be attached to profiles...but this is outrageous. I suppose if I search deep down in Facebook -- they have the right to do whatever they want with what I post there...but putting my info as a member of their Social Network on a search engine to spam etc is simply not tolerable.

Recently I stopped using Twitter when I did a search for my name on Google and saw that my 'twittering' was being made public. It's one thing for me to tell my pals that I'm looking out at the Marina in Marina Del Rey -- it's another to see it blasted across the world c/o Google and other search engines.

SOCIAL NETWORKING IS NOT WORKING when it violates my privacy and my trust with the social network. So far I have not gotten any email from Facebook telling me I'm going to be open to search engines -- but soon it will probably just show up. That's why I tell all of my clients to check Google every week -- for listings of their name and their company's name...you can't be too careful. Of course it's almost impossible to delete a Google listing or other search engine...but I can certainly delete my Facebook account or drop my Twitter account-- which sounds pretty good right now.

NBC SPORTS TO USE SECURITY CAMS FOR NEW ANGLES

Was just talking to a pal tonight about the much ballyhooed promises to viewers to be able to determine different camera angles when watching football and other sports. Not many of those have evolved. But we did find this news that may be of interest:

What's "NBC it" all about?  Turns out that nbc is using surveillance techn from General Electric to develop what it "NBC It." On replays, it allows NBC to magnify an area of the screen, giving a closer look at whether a player's knee was down or his foot was out of bounds. Supposedly, this new tech will ensures that when a small part of the screen is blown up, it doesn't get blurry. TV WEEK reports that "SNF" producer Fred Gaudelli plans to use "NBC It" on plays in which officials' rulings are challenged by coaches and on other occasions when the viewer might want a tighter look at a play." Turns out that NBC is also launching a virtually enhanced goal line for replays of plays inside the five-yard line when it looks like the offense is about to score.

Really it's just a link to youtube.com to upload your own 'rant' video. I looked at the Youtube.com Nanny Diaries group and I did not see any Nanny rants. In fact I only saw 15 postings-- not a lot considering this is an international movie!
