So why do the Japanese kill the dolphins? Their side here:
Fishermen in Japan defend their right to hunt and kill thoursands of dolphins as 'part of their culture' as the six month so-called 'killing season' begins. Every year more than 2,000 dolphins are killed at Taijai among the 23,000 mammals slaughtered in a hunt that lasts six months. The dolphins are intercepted along their migration route and driven into a cove by fisherman who bang metal rods to frighten and confuse them according to news reports. The Japanese believe the dolphin should be treated like any other fish-- the hunt is a tradition that goes back centuries.

TV Show Heroes, Joyce Schwarz blogging at Hollywood2020.blogs.com had an encounter with Dolphins in Mexico recently. Here's the Youtube.com video of that. The hightlight of the event was when Joyce asked 'her' dolphin if he wanted to come home with her to Marina Del Rey. She looked right at him and promised to put salt water in the pool and he jumped up and down and blew bubbles indicating he was ready to go! What an experience...
