For some reason I had never heard of the documentary CZECH DREAM, but it caught my eye at the video store this week blogged by Joyce Schwarz @ www.hollywood2020.blogs.com.
CZECH DREAM HITS USA VIDEO STORES FOR "REEL"!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I might not have picked it up if I didn't have a house guest coming here from Czech Republic this weekend. What was kewl is I just left a note on their audience blog. Every film site should have an audience blog!
As I noted on the film blog, I was rolling off my couch laughing until at the end I saw this elderly woman with canes or crutches walking to the opening of the non-existent "hyper mart" and I felt sad. As I explained in the blog I've been in advertising for years -- the old school kind and then the Internet and yes, I have a Masters degree from USC film school too..
COULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT PRO-BONO PROJECT
BUT every project I've done involving an opening -- I've tied in a charity with it. I'm probably best known for rolling out the MISSING KIDS ON THE MILK CARTON campaign in California for Ralphs...and I've organized more than 500 other events that I've had corporations sponsor.

Would I have handled the film the same way if I were using state funds? Hmm I probably would have used the state funds to open some kind of community program on the Meadow -- maybe a new Playground for kids and provided picnic lunch for everyone courtesy of a corporate sponsor. And pressured the printing companies and the ad firms to do the whole project Pro-bono. Admittedly the whole effort took GUTZ....let's see them make "THE MAN" pay in the next film -- not the people! js.
