Hi, on location here in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Convention Center, blogged by Joyce Schwarz, JCOM, www.joycecom.com. Blogger note: rather amazingly there is no wireless internet access except in the hotel rooms at this resort. No public wireless available. AND if you can believe it would have been $500 per room per day for IMA to get internet access at their conference. Anyway...blogging from my hotel room now.
KEYNOTE FOR INTERNET MERCHANTS ASSN CONFERENCE -- Jim Ambach, VP Seller Experience eBay
Ambach's keynote is covered superbly in the Auction Byte recap @ www.auctionbytes.com blog. Suffice to say that the majority of chatterin the hallways and in the exhibit area is about eBay's recent changes and the effect on sellers not just buyers. We'll try to get a copy of Ambach's presentation for you later.
Scott Wingo is live blogging the conference at : http://ebaystrategies.blogs.com/
SCOTT WINGO CHANNEL ADVISOR PRESENTATION AT IMA
SCOTT WINGO, Channeladvisor.com gave a terrific presentation that covered CSE -- competitive shopping engines 1.0 and 2.0 and also Google, and next-gen search apps including social networking like Facebook & more. He advised sellers that one of the first upgrades they should do is to get support through Google Product Search-- after all it's free. Plus if you use Google Checkout service it will show up higher than any other SEO search.
Wingo also talked about Google adwords and PPC (Pay per click) including why during the holidays-- Pay per click prices rise dramatically. However they still have an effective take rate because they produce so many results that end up in sales.
AOV -- average order value is another way to measure your sales. Wingo said that the challenge is in a) listing your product -- don't just say Digital camera -- be more specific and also try to bundle your camera with a whole package-- ie photographic balloons, cases, lens, manuals/books etc-- so that you get to a higher ticket. I hear that WIngo also blogged his speech and I'll link to that URL when I have it for your,
It was fascinating to learn the usage rate for competitive shopping engines-- CSE 1.0 = 70 percent, CSE 2,.0= 30 percent more details from WIngo's presentation to follow.
