So I get an email today from a WASHINGTON TIMES reporter to comment on the Clinton War Room documentary clip that made its way around Youtube.com on Friday and then hit mainstream media's 24 hour coverage i.e. Fox and CNN etc blogged by Joyce Schwarz, www.hollywood2020.blogs.com.
Don't know what I'm talking about -- well here's the gist of it as the Washington Times reporter explained to me in the email he wrote me-- "someone tampered with the audio track of a segment of D.A. Pennebaker's Clinton campaign documentary "The War Room" and posted it to YouTube.com. Essentially, it misled viewers into thinking that Clinton aide Mickey Kantor had said disparaging things about people from Indiana"
Still not sure what I'm talking about -- well, here's the most popular of the clips on Youtube.com that shows the so-called 'tampered' clip from the Bill Clinton doc by Penneabaker (below) NOTE$ the numbers of viewers 72,084 -- and this appears to be the most watched of the War Room clips that I could find. That's the size of a small town in Indiana or Ohio -- yet that many viewers of a clip that was doctored caused a MAJOR controversy. In the old media if only 72,084 had watched something on a local TV station -- it would be hard to even get the clip for syndication --it's possible that no one would have even noticed the clip. BUT because it was on the INTERNET and on Youtube.com -- it got world-wide play. Of course the fact that it was what we called in Journalism 101 YELLOW JOURNALISM -- false info/propoganda etc-- also made it mass media newsworthy!
