Okay, here's a quick update of what happened with the Motrin Twitter controversy involving mommy bloggers and others who were offended by the video posted on www.motrin.com (and I hear also a print ad in magazines). Earlier in day I covered this at http://tinyurl.com/mmotrin and http://tinyurl.com/motringate.
A) As of 10:30 p.m. www.motrin.com was DOWN -- nothing there. Question did it crash or did Motrin or agency take it down?
B) Earlier in day I tuned into www.twitter.com to see hundreds of posts already up about the animated video on www.motrin.com (see screenshots @ http://tinyurl.com/motringate that I posted in case site DID go down).
C) Because no one had heard from the ad agency TAXI NYC who won the $18 million Motrin account from Johnson & Johnson in August (based on a credentials only presentation according to Ad Age trade article quoted in http://tinyurl.com/mmotrin . I called Taxi's director of corporate communications Lisa Sanders via her cell phone. She had no comment (see http://www.tinyurl.com/mmotrin) rather amazingly she also did not appear to know about the twitter controversy. Could be that the video was created by the McNeil Consumer Healthcare , the J&J division in charge of Motrin? Be odd to do that creative in-house doubt if McNeil has that capability? We shall find out soon. I left call on Motrin hotline listed on bottom of the www.motrin.com @ 12 noon -- no response
.D) As of 11 p.m. PST www.motrin.com was down -- here's a link to the video I found on a search of google blogs which is still working or is cached there? Motrin Moms Commercial (Video) | Sean Percival's Blog
1 hour ago The video that set the twitters on fire, what do you think? What Others Are Saying: Jessica Gottlieb Planet C Pistachio Twitter Search. Sean Percival's Blog - http://www.seanpercival.com/blog/ |
E) Lisa Sanders, director of communications for Taxi NYC (who has the $18 Million account called me back at !2:30 p.m. to say she 'officially had no comment"
F. Kathy Widmer, Vice President of Marketing for McNeil Consumer Healthcare (the division of Johnson & Johnson in charge of Motrin) did later Sunday evening send out a note of apology to Katja Presnell via email You can see it at http://www.ladybuglandings.com
Blogger Katja Presnell, actually created a video response and posted it online. She says she got thousands of hits to her blog www.ladybuglandings.com Go to her site @ http://www.skimbacolifestyle.com/ to see her video. Katja got a response from Kathy Widmer, VP Marketing for McNeil Consumer Healthcare (see point F above.
So we'll see if Taxi NYC had anything to do with the video on http://www.motrin.com or not? Be fascinating to find out. If not why didn't Lisa Sanders explain that the site was created by McNeil when I talked to Lisa at 12 noon PST?
