FUTURE OF TELEVISION by Joyce Schwarz:
1) TV is one form of what is now called "PACKAGED MEDIA" the old world television is fast being replaced by media or content.
2) Content may be king but distribution certainly rules the universe.
3) People are starting to talk back to TV -- example -- with the elections and CNN and Fox's use of Twitter, Facebook and other social media
4) Rise of the 'generation c (creativity) is showcased by the popularity of youtube.com channels and other viral video sites.
5) Huliq.com and other consortium media sites offer viewers a chance to media snack any time of the day or night anywhere they can access the Internet or download to a mobile.
6) Role of sponsors is fast changing to that of the PBS underwriting model or 'brought to you buy' sponsorship such as the season openers for shows like 24 and DAMAGES etc.
7) Watch for the rise of EMOTICON driven programming in the next decade --happy face for 'feel good' TV/content, running person logo for action adventure not unlike car for traffic directions or sun/clouds for weather. But appealing to our current emotional status not just demographics or psychographics.
8) Sponsors responding faster to social media and activist outcry -- J&J sponsoring reality show for moms -- when just month or so ago involved in twitter mommy blog controversy for Motrin.
9)Custom-tainment -- an oldie that Joyce Schwarz coined more than 15 years ago which means -- customizing content -- info-tainment, entertainment, craft-tainment, edu-tainment depending on what we want to see or experience the content.
10) Rise of gesture computing and cross between games & programming/cotent -- ie DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) meets American Idol.
