• CROWDFUNDING STATISTICS (quotient.com) 
• The combined platforms raised $1.5 billion in 2011; a staggering figure that is set to double by the end of 2012.
• The majority of platforms are based in North America (191 of total 208 in the U.S.), while Europe hosts 139 (44 in UK).
• The top five crowdfunding platforms are said to account for 95% of the total funding in Europe and 73% of the total funding in North America.

Why Crowdfunding Will Explode In 2013:

Forbes,October 2011 reports that : Estimates for annual crowdfunding transactions go as high as $500 billion annually compared to 2011’s $1.5 billion (anticipated to be $3 billion in 2012).  If crowdfunding even begins to approach that scale, it will completely change the landscape for start-up financing.
