The bulk of the Grammy iceberg melts s-l-o-w-l-y off-camera in what amounts to a 9-hour marathon, during which more than 90 of those golden prizes are read off and received. And we're not just talking about the "nobody-but-their-mom-cares" categories like Best Surround Sound Album (that one went to Steely Dan's Donald Fagen, incidentally) but legit biggies like Best Alternative Rock Album.

Willie Hutch, songwriter, musician, and producer was a true icon whose life’s work was dedicated to the influential success of music and film industry in immeasurable ways. He was responsible for contributing, creating, and developing many notable artists’ careers through his musical direction and production sculpting “The Standard” for what performers today strive to become. Willie touched many artists of whom we know as today’s most soulful legends,  The Jackson 5, Michael Jackson, The Fifth Dimension, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, The Commodores, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, and the list goes on! He was a versatile and key figure to music greats, Hal Davis and Berry Gordy and has collaborated with Clive Davis, Mo Austin, and Quincy Jones.

In the motion picture industry his music lives on and his tracks make an appearance on two Paramount Pictures soundtracks, “Four Brothers” (2005) and the Oscar winning film, “Hustle and Flow” (2005). Perhaps Willie’s most enduring work was during the height of his career when he placed his mark in the film and motion picture industry with the production of two soundtracks he created during the “blaxploitation” era for the films, “Foxy Brown” (1973) and “The Mack” (1974). Today, “The Mack” has secured its status as one of the Hip-Hop generation’s favorite film. His funk soul single, “Brothers Gonna Work It Out” has been sampled by Rap, Hip-Hop, and Electronica artists including; The Notorious B.I.G., Chemical Brothers, Public Enemy, Ghostface Killah featuring Kanye West, and Moby..

  NBC and the new CW network have refused to carry ads for Shut Up & Sing, the documentary about the Dixie Chicks' opposition to the war in Iraq, which opens this weekend in Los Angeles and New York, according to the film's distributor, the Weinstein Co. "It's a sad commentary about the level of fear in our society that a movie about a group of courageous entertainers who were blacklisted for exercising their right of free speech is now itself being blacklisted by corporate America," Harvey Weinstein said in a statement. Today's (Friday) Daily Variety reported that while NBC has acknowledged that the spots were declined because they are "disparaging" to President Bush, the CW maintains that it did not reject them. A spokesman for the CW told the trade paper: "We were told they were not going to make a national spot buy on CW."

As one anonymous post says -- even if you don't buy CD's anymore...and we don't want to know why-- this might be a time to buy one!..Happy election day...and may our speech always be free!

The ACM Scholarship Awards was co-sponsored by the American Film Institute (AFI) and organized by the Institute for Education, Research, and Scholarships (IFERS) in association with ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) and ACM Computers in Entertainment (http://www.acm.org/pubs/cie.html),a non-profit pub that promos education in entertainment technology including computer games, movies, and music.

MTV SHELLING OUT $200 MILLION for ATOM....

Trecking culture into the woods is no easy feat when it involves schlepping classical instruments like the Viola, Violins, Chello and a quartet of musicians from the Gros Morne Summer Music Festival and an occasional grand piano for Earth to Human experience creator David Maggs to play too!

WHY MUSIC, ARCHEOLOGY, PSYCHOLOGY AND PHILOSOPHY IN THE WOODS?

Maggs who is also a well-respected Canadian musician in his own right, and also the artistic director of Gros Morne Summer Music believes, "If we can understand our lives within the context of a larger human legacy, we might embrace the transience of our own existence, grasp our role in the world in which we live, and participate in the phenomenon of life at its fullest."

WHY A PIANO ON AN ECO TRIP?

The real answers to the question of why transport such highbrow concepts into the wilds of Newfoundland and UNESCO's Gros Morne National Park are going to be explored by daily presentations by Maggs and an accompanying team of authors and experts on surrounding ecosystems. Day one of the 7 day experience inter-mixed a Mozart concert at St.Matthew's Anglican Church with an evening program by Maggs exploring the relationship of the philosophy of Rene Descartes to today's eco-movement.

CLOUDBERRY COCKTAILS and ARCTIC VODKA -- COOL MASH-UP

Heady stuff but an unscheduled stop to see an ancient and well-hidden Trilobite and a prelude of Cloudberry cocktails with Arctic Vodka broke the ice for many into what just may be what today's Youtube Generation would call a cool mash-up of the next 'gen' of eco-travel.  

Don't ask, don't tell -- we saw a trilobyte in Newfoundland -- but we can't tell you where-- just by the roadside...preserving eco is our goal!
