FEMALE BOOMERS REMEMBER BETSY MC CALL PAPERDOLLS....
I keep telling pals about Stardoll.com because I just love the idea of reaching into a virtual closet and pulling out anything you want. But now it looks like I'm going to have to pay to acquire all those beautiful clothes I dressed my previous dolls with in other posts :( ....anyway...in talking about the website, almost all the boomers I've talked to (females) have mentioned Betsy McCall -- so I thought I would post some JPEGS of her -- from MCCalls magazine where she appeared each month -- ready to cut out and play with and dress up with what else paper clothes!
Wow have paperdolls changed in the 21st century-- compare www.paperdoll.com with this JPEG of Betsy McCall from MC CALLS MAGAZINE.
THE NEXT QUESTION THAT FEMALE BOOMERS ASK ME -- is how do they make money -- in otherwords, what is the revenue model. I explain about selling virtual clothes for virtual dolls and some chick's eyes glaze over -- getting just too complicated -- I don't want to tell them that TWEENS are probably doing this every day with little or no assistance from parents!
THE EASIER COMPARISON OF STAR DOLL is to BUILD-A-BEAR WORKSHOP (R)www.buildabear.com with its stores that offer a chance to build a bear (literally from the stuffing up) and then dress up that stuffed bear.According to Wikipedia.com: Build-A-Bear was founded by Maxine Clark in 1997. The first store was located in the St. Louis Galleria. Eight years later, there are over 170 stores not just in the United States but also in Canada, Japan, Korea, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Australia, France and the United Kingdom.
Here's how they do this step by step: http://www.buildabear.com/aboutUs/OurCompany/Process.aspx
FRIENDS2 BE MADE: I find it fascinating that BUILD-A-BEAR Workshop (R)has a new (what they call) sister site and stores called Friends 2 Be Made where you can make -- what else -- youre best FRIEND! http://www.friends2bmade.com/ (see JPEG above).
BUILD-A- BEAR -- virtual bears/Virtual friends? As far as I know BUILD-A-BEAR does not have virtual online 'building/dressing experiences' . You can send ecards though and other goodies. NOTE -- there's a great new service they're offering in conjunction with founder Maxine Clark's book - - In The Bear Necessities of Business, Build-A-Bear Workshop® founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Bear Maxine Clark reveals how she created this amazing global business from the ground up.
